BEST MED

A BETTER COORDINATION AND TOURISTIC PLANNING FOR A MORE SUSTAINABLE TOURISM

The Mediterranean coasts attract large flows of tourists, mainly during the summer. Dealing with peaks of tourism flows, a phenomenon called “seasonality”, is one of the main challenges of BEST MED strategic project.

El Legado Andalusí, an Andalusian public foundation for cultural tourism, together with 10 other European regions designed this project to encourage a better governance among different authorities and players in the Mediterranean, when it comes to address the mitigation of seasonality.

The partnership will work on a more balanced distribution of tourists between the coastal and inland areas. This will be done by implementing, the “MED Sustainable Path and Cultural Routes Model” (MED S&C Path) method. BEST MED will also oversee spreading the use of tools already developed, adapted or promoted by Modular projects such as “Tourism Data indicators toolkit”, the “Green Beach Model” (designed by MITOMED+) or “Tourism sustainability toolkit in Mediterranean” (CO-EVOLVE project).
