MEDITERRANEAN COOPERATION OVER 30 YEARS : THE ROOTS OF INTERREG MED

Once upon a time, specifically 30 years ago, the first version of Interreg Med, REG-INTERREG I was established by the EU Commission in August 1990, through 14 cross-border pilot projects. At that time, the Berlin Wall had just fallen and making peace with our European neighbours was an absolute necessity to bring peace to the region.

30 YEARS OF INTERREG IN THE MEDITERRANEAN: THE BEFORE AND AFTER IN THE VOICE OF VETERANS

 

Three decades of European cooperation have gone by in the Mediterranean. It is time to look back and review the path that laid down the foundations of the current Interreg Mediterranean Programme. We invited four cooperation veterans from France, Spain, Italy and Greece to tell us how it was like 30 years ago and to share their vision for the future. What better way to honour the present if not looking to the past, by senators of Mediterranean cooperation?

MEDITERRANEAN FUTURE: A MACRO-REGION?

 

Agnès Rampal is vice-President of the Intermediterranean Commission of the CPMR, member of the Committee of Regions and elected member of the Managing Authority of the Interreg MED Programme. We met her in Nice for a short interview about the meaning of celebrating 30 years of cooperation in the Mediterranean. In the end, a question remains: what if after 30 years cooperating, the Mediterranean could be recognized as a macro-region by the EU?
