Cities Forum 2020 “Together we shape a sustainable urban future” will be held in Oporto on January 30-31

What future directions will take of urban development within Cohesion Policy? This is the focus of the debate of this year’s edition of the Cities Forum, taking place in Oporto. The event, organised by the DG REGIO (European Commission) and the City of Oporto will bring together key stakeholders from European, national and local levels.

The two-day forum will be made of workshops, a small exhibition and panel discussions, notably about the role of the European Urban initiative to support cities and the one of the Urban Agenda for the EU to shape the future of sustainable cities. The cities’ good practises making use of ERDF and the transition towards circular economy will also be subjects to debate.

Mayors from different EU cities, European Commission and Parliament members, high level speakers as well as experts will reflect on the current challenges and share their ideas on urban policy improvement. Moreover, the URBACT interregional programme will launch its fourth City Lab which will address balanced territorial development in relation to the renewal of the Leipzig Charter.

Some of the workshops will even take the participants throughout the city of Oporto in order to showcase the way this city deals with climate change.

If you are engaged in sustainable urban development, don’t miss it!
